Trauma Informed
I work from an anti-oppression framework
As someone who practices relational therapy, I look at the impact that the many people and systems have had on our life. Becoming conscious of the ways in which we have been shaped by these influences allows us in turn to be the shaper. I attend to the trauma you may have experienced from oppression and the impact on your body, relationship, sense of self. I also work with clients to cultivate an internal compassionate voice. If you are carrying intense feelings of shame, loss and loneliness, we will work to cultivate an internal voice of self-compassion to begin to heal.
Arts Based Therapy
“I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn't say any other way... things I had no words for.” ― Georgia O'Keeffe
As an Expressive Arts Therapist, we can use art as a way to express feelings that are hard to put into words. For some people, talking can never quite get to the heart of their feelings and experiences. Art can illuminate an understanding of ourselves that hides from our consciousness. For Expressive Art Therapy to work there is no need to have previous art experience.
Talk Based Therapy
“Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is one of the bravest things we will ever do” Brene Brown
For other people talk therapy is a better fit. I use a mixture of different therapeutic modalities depending on what your needs are. Some of those treatment modalities are: Relational, Attachment Based, Narrative, Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), Mindfulness, and Somatic body based treatments. I also use more cognitive approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Everyone has diverse needs so I stay flexible and weave these different approaches throughout our work together.
